Betsy Black is a retro serif typeface, designed as the stylish counterpart to Cooper Black. A blend of Windsor and Cooper Black, Betsy Black has angled counters that set it apart. When I began working on the rebrand for Planet Pantry, I realized that nothing felt quite right next to Cooper Black. While it had the retro vibe I wanted, it came off as too playful and childish.

I needed something that had a vintage feel but wasn’t cheesy or overly decorative. The goal was to create a typeface that could capture that retro charm while still being practical and versatile for modern designs. Betsy Cooper achieves this by striking a balance between old-school appeal and timeless elegance, without feeling outdated or overly youthful. It’s bold, groovy, and perfect for projects that need an extra touch of personality.
